Truth Tuesday: Your GPA Doesn't Matter

My grades are important to me, and I'm constantly striving to do better. I currently have the highest grade in my journalism class, and have at least at 90 percent in all of the classes I'm taking.
However, from everything I've heard from professionals, your GPA doesn't matter after you graduate from college.

I know this goes against everything that has been preached at you for the past 20 years, but it's true.
Do you know what's more important than a GPA? Experiences.
I recently went to a PRSSA Regional Conference in Detroit where I listened to Kelly Rossman-McKinney, APR, speak about what she looks for in employees, and she made it very clear that our GPA doesn't matter and she doesn't care if it's on your resume. The only thing she's looking for is experiences.
However, this doesn't mean that you can slack off. Some of your internships will be looking at your GPA before they hire you, so don't let you GPA fall completely to the wayside.
But before you start sweating about the B you got on your paper, when you wanted an A, don't sweat it. As long as you're getting the experiences that will further your career, you're golden.
If I could go back in time and tell my freshman self to value experiences more than my GPA, I would have been a lot less stressed in my college career.
So for anyone reading this, don't flunk your classes, but make sure you are getting the experiences that will be most beneficial to your career.
Experiences > GPA.
